Take a load off your back

Luxfer lightweight high-pressure cylinders help reduce strains, sprains and muscular pain caused by carrying extra weight. Favored by firefighters due to their lightness of weight and durability in self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs), Luxfer's L6X® composite cylinders are now also widely used by paramedics and other emergency first-responders. For emergency situations requiring additional oxygen content, Luxfer's L7X® high-strength, higher-pressure aluminum cylinders provide more gas in the same traditional-sized package.

L6X® medical composite

Each ultra-lightweight L6X carbon composite oxygen cylinder has an inner liner made from Luxfer's proprietary L6X alloy, which is strengthened with an aerospace-grade carbon-fiber wrapping that completely surrounds the liner.

These extremely durable cylinders initially gained favor with firefighters who use them in self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs). They are now also used by paramedics and other emergency first-responders. Because of their lighter weight, compact size, higher capacity and excellent portability, Luxfer's full-wrapped cylinders are becoming popular in emergency and pre-hospital care, as well as for oxygen therapy, in which reduced weight and increased filling capacity provide significant advantages to ambulatory patients.

Features and benefits:

  • Luxfer's M15A, which provides the same oxygen capacity as the current MD15 aluminum cylinder commonly used by EMTs, offers a 42 percent weight reduction and a smaller package.
  • Reduces firefighters' non-fire emergency injuries, such as strain, sprain and muscular pain caused by carrying extra weight.
  • High pressure means increased oxygen capacity (3,000-psi maximum pressure per DOT).
  • Proven Luxfer cylinder technology used for many years in SCBA applications.
  • Manufactured in the USA.

Notes: All cylinders have a 15-year service life.

L7X® Aluminum

Our L7X all-metal oxygen cylinders are manufactured from Luxfer's higher-strength L7X aluminum alloy. L7X advantages include higher-pressure filling up to 3,000 psi and significantly more gas capacity with no increase in cylinder size or noticeable weight gain.

Features and benefits:

  • Same size and weight as conventional D-size cylinder with a 45 percent increase in oxygen capacity.
  • Fewer swap-outs and less cylinder handling.
  • Can be used with existing cylinder fleets.
  • 30 percent lighter in weight than conventional steel cylinders.
  • Manufactured in the USA.

Notes: All cylinders have non-limited service life as long as they pass required periodic testing.
