What Is COPD?

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, progressive, inflammatory lung condition and a major global health problem associated with high morbidity and high mortality.

COPD is a common disorder in which lung damage over a long period of time impairs the flow of air in and out of the lungs and causes breathlessness. Two related processes, Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema, cause COPD. Both are closely related to smoking, pollution and obesity. COPD progresses slowly and sufferers do not normally seek medical attention until their disease is quite advanced.
