The history of Luxfer Gas Cylinders begins with the
founding of Luxfer Glass Prism Syndicate, Ltd., in
1898. The company was established to produce and sell
an innovative architectural glass panel with integral
prisms that allowed daylight to be refracted into
interior spaces. The name Luxfer comes from the Latin
words "lux," meaning light, and "ferre,"
meaning to carry.
In the 1950s, after several decades of diversifying
its product line, the company developed the world's
first mass-produced aluminum high-pressure gas cylinders.
Initially used to carry the carbon dioxide required
for commercial beverage dispensing, Luxfer cylinders
have since proved valuable in a wide variety markets,
including fire extinguishing, industrial gas, medical,
automotive, scuba diving and life support.
Today Luxfer Gas Cylinders owns and operates six manufacturing
facilities on three continents, producing some three
million high-pressure gas cylinders annually for customers
in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and
the Americas.
From the ocean's deepest caves to the heights of Mt.
Everest, Luxfer cylinders are setting the standard
worldwide.
